Welcome to the Ethio American Foundation

Bridging Cultures. Building Communities. Empowering Futures.

The Ethio American Foundation (EAF) was registered with the IRS in December 2024 to empower Ethiopian-American youth, women, and families across Minneapolis–Saint Paul and beyond. More than a nonprofit, we are a visionary movement committed to driving lasting change and opportunity.

We exist to ignite potential, celebrate cultural pride, and uplift the next generation of leaders.

Mission Statement

The Ethio American Foundation (EAF) exists to empower Ethiopian-American and East African immigrant youth, women, and families by advancing education, promoting economic opportunity, expanding access to health and wellness, preserving culture, and fostering civic leadership.

Tagline Mission: Empowering Ethiopian-American and East African youth, women, and families through education, opportunity, health, and cultural pride.

Our Vision

We envision a future where Ethiopian-Americans are fully integrated, empowered, and thriving while maintaining their rich cultural identity. We aim to bridge the gap between heritage and progress through collaboration and strategic partnerships, ensuring a lasting positive impact on future generations.

Why We Exist

Minnesota is home to more than 85,000 East African immigrants and descendants, including 37,000 Ethiopian-Americans. These communities bring resilience and cultural richness, yet too many face barriers in:

  • Education and college access
  • Workforce readiness and entrepreneurship
  • Food security and healthcare access
  • Civic participation and leadership

At EAF, we believe systemic challenges don’t define our story—resilience does. By investing in education, wellness, and empowerment, we transform cultural strength into a springboard for opportunity.

What We Do

Our programs are community-rooted, equity-driven, and designed to create generational impact:

  • Cultural Preservation
Hosting events, workshops, and programs to celebrate and sustain Ethiopian heritage.
  • Education & Youth Development
Providing scholarships, mentorship, and academic resources to first-generation students.
  • Economic Empowerment
Offering financial literacy programs, job training, and entrepreneurship support.
  • Community Advocacy
Promoting legal support, immigration assistance, and policy awareness.
  • Health & Well-being
Connecting families to healthcare services and mental health resources.

Our Impact

Since our registration in December 2024, the Ethio American Foundation has set a clear and measurable goal: to serve at least 500 individuals and families across the Twin Cities—including youth, women, parents, and elders.

We measure success through outcomes such as:

  • Increased financial literacy and workforce readiness among youth and adults
  • Expanded opportunities for women’s empowerment, leadership, and economic independence
  • Reduction in food insecurity with culturally relevant programs
  • Scholarships and mentorship enabling first-generation student success
  • Stronger community connections built on pride, resilience, and civic engagement

Our Commitment to Equity

At the heart of EAF is a promise: we center community voice. Programs are co-created with participants in Amharic, Somali, Oromo, Tigrinya, and English. We adapt based on community feedback, ensuring access for women, youth, and families who are often marginalized.

Our work is rooted in justice, dignity, and shared leadership.

Join Us in Empowering a Thriving Community

We are building a future where Ethiopian-Americans lead with confidence, contribute with purpose, and grow in unity. Our impact is local, but our vision is limitless.

Whether you are a community champion, business partner, or supporter of progress—this is your moment to shape the future.
